I have previously
written on how books can positively help us understand ADD/ADHD.
However, one article is not entirely enough to explain this idea.
Due to the limits of one article, a disorder such as ADD/ADHD will
not be fully explained. So we must find ways to let people
understand more about ADD/ADHD. One way is to help recommend the
books that greatly deal about ADD/ADHD. The Internet is a great
source of finding great books that tackle about the disorder. One
website that I have found that is good source about books on
ADD/ADHD is Balance Check Books. It has recommended a lot of books
and here are some of them.
One book the website
recommends is "Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping With
Attention Deficit Disorder From Childhood Through Adulthood" which
was written by two psychiatrist Edward Hallowell, M.D. and John
Ratey, M.D.. The book has some clear explanations of what it feels
like to have ADD/ADDHD and is very well written. The book only has
319 pages and is published by Simon and Schuster. Simon and Schuster
also has Audio copy of the book.
Another book that is
recommended is "Attention Deficit Disorder: A Different Perception".
The book is about the thesis of Thom Hartmann which puts ADD/ADHD in
a different light as it states that the disorder has its roots in
prehistoric life and its future in the 21st century. The
author further shows that the disorders characteristics was a
survival requirement for humankind in pre-agricultural history then
states that these characteristics are becoming important as it is
more needed by the our changing economy and culture.
With books we then talk
about our next topic, alternative medication for ADD/ADHD. Again a
short article can not fully cover two topics so an introduction
would only be the thing to do. The alternative medication that we
would be talking about is Hyperbaric oxygenation therapy. This
therapy is new way of treating ADD/ADHD and is already U.S. FDA
approved. The therapy involves patients breathing in pressurized
oxygen inside an airtight hyperbaric chamber. Sessions inside a
hyperbaric chamber lasts less than an hour and parents or loved ones
can accompany patients inside the chamber during the sessions.
Hyperbaric chambers are
available already in hospitals and selected health centers. They are
also available for sale and for rent thus making the therapy to be
taken at home or an office. The hyperbaric chambers that are for
sale or for rent are available in two sizes, the single and double
bags. Single bags are fit for one person and would be ideal for
offices because of its size. The double bag would fit two people and
would take up more space so it would be suggested that it be placed
at home.
One article is not
enough. Hope this article on ADD/ADHD books and hyperbaric chambers
has helped. Have a nice day to you reader.
