It was officially called
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder by the American Psychiatric
Association in 1994 but a lot of people still call it ADD which was
the name given to it in 1980. The disorder's name has changed due
to scientific advances and the findings of careful field trials.
ADD/ADHD is a neurobiologically-based developmental disability that
is estimated to affect between 3-5% of the school age population.
In order to understand
and cope more about ADD/ADHD Here are some books I have found while
searching the Internet that tackle more on the topic to bring more
understanding about ADD/ADHD. Would like to recognize my main
source, the website Balance Check Books. Some of these books are
available at the local library or bookstore. But if not, then one
can order it through Amazon.com.
One of the good books
about ADD/ADHD is titled " A Teenager's Guide to ADD" which was
written by two teenagers Antony Amen and Sharon Johnson and then a
neurological psychiatrist Dr. Daniel G. Amen.
The book is a must read
for those who are ten years old or above who have ADD/ADHD. The book
talks clearly about explanations of what is happening inside the
brain of a person who has ADD/ADHD. Then it breaks the disorder into
six subclasses that show the wide variety of symptoms that may
occur. The book also includes elections on re-building self esteem
and informing others about the disorder.
Another book to be
recommended about ADD/ADHD is "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or
Crazy?: A Self-Help Book fro Adults With Attention Deficit
Disorder." The book was written by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo.
Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo are two women who work with people who
have ADD/ADHD. Their book has great insight on ADD/ADHD and has
excellent tips for managing life.
But, enough with the
books. We go on to talk about Hyperbaric oxygenation therapy. A
therapy that is a new alternative medication in treating ADD/ADHD.
Hyperbaric oxygenation therapy is a treatment that is already U.S.
FDA approved and is very safe because it does not require surgery.
The treatment is also very safe because it only involves patients to
sit or sleep inside a hyperbaric chamber breathing in pure oxygen.
The sessions inside a hyperbaric chamber only takes less than an
hour so it is also not time consuming.
Another advantage with
hyperbaric oxygenation therapy is that hyperbaric chambers are
available for sale and for rent. The available hyperbaric chambers
come in two sizes, the single bag and double bag. Single bags can
fit only one person while the double bag fits two. Single bags can
be operated solo while the double bags need two people.
Books and hyperbaric
chambers, all here to help us with ADD/ADHD.
