3 Types Of Estrogen
Estrogen Functions
Progesterone Hormone
3 types of estrogen: What is Estrogen? What are its
types and functions; some useful insight into the Estrogen types.
Also learn how to balance the estrogen levels.
Estrogen and progesterone are two most significant
female hormones that form the most important part of the female
reproductive system. They are also responsible for the proper and
smooth functioning of the reproductive organs in the females as well
as maintaining their menstrual cycles.
The adrenal glands as well as the ovaries are
responsible and are the primary sites that produce the 3 types of
estrogen during the active reproductive age and even they continue
producing them even after menopause.
The 3 types of estrogen made within the female body
are usually referred together as estrogen. Almost six different
types of estrogen have been identified depending on their function
and influence on the female reproductive system.
The 3 types of estrogen produced within the female
body are estradiol, Estriol and estrone. Estradiol is a very
powerful form of estrogen. Being the primary form if estrogen, it is
produced during the reproductive age of a woman. Estrone is an
intermediate among the 3 types of estrogen. Being 12 times less
powerful than estradiol, estrone is basically produced in fatty body
tissues in the adrenal glands. However, Estriol is the least
powerful among them. It is considered to be 80 times less powerful
than estradiol.
Functions of Estrogen
Although estrogen is present both in women as well as
men, the amount of estrogen in women is in higher amounts than in
men in their reproductive years. Sexual characteristics in female
that are secondary are developed by this hormone like breasts. It is
also responsible for thickening of the endometrial walls as well as
balancing the menstrual cycles in females.
In men, estrogen is responsible for maturity of sperm
cells as well as for an enhancement in their sexual instincts. Other
functions include:
-
Development of secondary sexual features in
women.
-
Acceleration of metabolism and fat.
-
Deceleration of height
-
Reduction in muscle mass
-
Stimulation of endometrial growth
-
Increasing of uterine growth
-
Increasing vaginal lubrication
-
Thickening of the vaginal wall
-
Increasing bone formation as well as bone
restoration
-
Protein synthesis
-
Mental health in women
A woman’s mental health is significantly affected by
the hormone called estrogen. The 3 types of estrogen together are an
important factor when it comes to mood fluctuations in women.
Clinical recovery from perimenopause, postpartum, as well as
postmenopausal depression has been effectively affected when the 3
types of estrogen levels are balanced and stabilized.
Types of estrogen and their
importance
Almost six different types of estrogen have been
identified depending on their function and influence on the female
reproductive system. The 3 types of estrogen produced within the
female body are estradiol, Estriol and estrone.
-
Estradiol- the main form of estrogen produced by
the ovaries, estradiol is the most powerful in its least amounts
among the 3 types of estrogen hormones. Being the most active
form of estrogen, estradiol is the fullest form of estrogen that
travels to the sockets and tissues and further into estrogen
receptor organs that cause estrogen effects.
In addition to be synthesized in the ovaries, it can also be
produced from precursor hormones of the adrenal glands. It even
requires some nutrients to be able for proper metabolically
enabled synthesis.
-
Estrone- this is the intermediate hormone among
the 3 types of estrogen hormones. Weaker than estradiol but
stronger than Estriol; estrone is produced by fat cells mostly
found in the belly fat. It is indirectly active in tissue cells
and is also considered safer than estradiol because of its
innate nature and weakness. Larger quantities of estrone are
required to get the same effects as estradiol in lesser
quantity.
-
Estriol- among the 3 types of estrogen hormones,
this one is the weakest. It is a metabolically waste product
from the synthesis of estradiol. Though it does affects the
estrogen receptor cells in large amounts. Formed and produced in
liver, Estriol is 8% as powerful as estradiol and 14% as
powerful as estrone. Once bound to an estrogen receptor cell, it
does not allow estradiol to act or affect the same cell.
Estriol is also sometimes considered to have some
anti cancerous properties because it is weaker than the stronger
forms of the estrogen hormone. A well balanced and nutritious diet
and a healthy lifestyle should be adopted to keep your hormonal
levels balanced and to keep your body healthy. Intake of natural
herbs like saw palmetto and beta sitosterol found in
Endosterol is
essential for making a balanced diet and a happy living.
